It can also mean to treat someone in a condescending way. Like they’re less intelligent or child. The adjective would be “patronizing.” You might say, “That speech was patronizing. He talked to the audience like they were stupid.”

patronizing　上から目線の　condescending 　先輩ぶったといった感じになる。

例えば誰かが質問をして、”that's a good question"と行ったとき、
言い方のイントネーションによっては、”よく考えられましたねー”
といったよおうな相手の頭をなでなでしたような感じ。－それがpatronizing.

英語では1歳未満、生後6ヵ月とか10か月というふうに言って、ゼロ歳というフレーズは使わない。
zero years old ゼロの場合もyearsと複数形を使う。
単数形を使うのは１だけ。
１以外は複数形を使う。

one thing I've noticed is
living in a present.

Chinese say

if you are depressed, you are living in a past.
if you are anxious, you are living in a future.
but if you are peace, you are living in a present.

That's stack in my mind ever since.

Living in a past feels you sorrow and depression.
Living in a future makes you a victims of worries and unrealistic hopes.


One of my favorite is “we can’t see the finish line if we’re always looking behind us.” So true. If we let the past hold us back, we’ll never accomplish anything, now or in the future. I’m not sure where that one came from, but there’s a couple I like from movies too. Not surprising, given my movie mania. One is from an animated American film.

That is why it is called the present.” I know it’s pretty hokey, but I still like it.

Actually I recently came across a line of movie dialog.
It has greatly helped me in that regard.

Basically character said

"Worrying means you suffer twice"

that really really stuck a chord with me.
and it has help me put worrying aside a lot of time.

worrying can help us solve the problems by encouraging us to envision the future and prepare for it.
but once we have done and we can do regarding some issue or problem
we need to let things take their course.
At that point, it's out of our hands.
So lately when I myself  obsessing over something I repeat that line in my head.
"Worrying means you suffer twice"
and it really calms me.

exotic　外来の　外来種の　－　日本語ではエキゾチックな　なんとなく異国情緒豊かなないい意味で使うことがあるが、
英語では　foreign　我々とは違った、風変わりなという意味で使うこともある。
よって、使うときには注意が必要。

foreign　という言葉自体も最近は使う時に注意が必要。

US vs THEM　と言う感じで、我々対外国人という差別、区別をすることがいけないと言われる風潮もあります。

CNNでは foreignという言葉を使わないということが一つの原則となっています。

foreign minsterやforeign exchangeは例外。

Foreign studentと言わずに international student と言い換えをしています。
