１．8割すてる － 残りの8割はニュアンスとして捨ててみて、2割で話しても8割相手に伝わります。
２．おとな語をすてる － 「大人語」はすてて簡単でシンプルな「子供語」に変換。
大人語は日本もアメリカもおよそ5万語。長い年月をかけて覚えるものです。
アメリカでは5歳の子供が使っている言葉は約1000語。
★子供に質問されたとしたら、何と応えるか。
子供の語彙しか持っていないとしたら、どうやって話すかを考えてみましょう。
３．直訳をすてる － 「直訳」をすてて、映像から英語にできそうなところを探してみる。
日本語と英語の間に、「映像」を入れてみる。
つまり、「日本語→映像→英語」という方法。
「キリン→映像」 「A tall animal」「Long neck」「Yellow]
ポイントは、わからない単語、直訳に固執しないこと。
そして、頭の中に描いた絵の中で、どこかしら英語にできないかを探してみること。
４．抽象語をすてる
単語がわからないときは、「抽象語をすてる」
「弱音を吐く＝show the white feather」ではなく、
もう学校に行きたくない。
「一目置く」 ＝ acknowledge someone's superiority

I decide where to go and what to eat at that moment.
